The Metro Station Church of Christ is a stop of the Hamburg subway - U2 in the district Eimsbüttel . The station abbreviation is "CH". The stop has around 9,900 people entering and leaving the station every day (Mon-Fri, 2017).
history
The Christ Church underground station went into operation in June 1913, making the underground station one of the oldest in Hamburg . At that time the stop was part of the so-called Eimsbüttel branch line, which was supposed to connect the Hellkamp station with Schlump . Since this line was not yet completed when the Christ Church went into operation, the trains coming from Schlump ended here until October 1913.
During the Second World War , the underground line in the Christ Church area was badly damaged by air raids. The station was also badly affected and had to be taken out of service by 1948.
In the post-war period, the station and the underground line were rebuilt several times. The Fruchtallee above the station was expanded into a multi-lane main road, which required reinforcement of the ceilings. At the same time, the entrance building was also rebuilt at a slightly relocated location. The platform was expanded to accommodate longer trains. Finally, the Eimsbüttel branch line became part of the new U2 line , which was given its own inner-city line east of Christ Church.
investment
The Christ Church stop is in a simple, low-lying area under Fruchtallee. The central platform, which is around 120 meters long, has two opposite staircases in the middle, which lead to an access building on a traffic island between the two lanes of Fruchtallee. In addition, the subway station has an elevator, so that it is considered barrier-free. The eponymous Christ Church is located a few meters north of the train station on the opposite side of the street.
