The Metro Station Schippelsweg is a tunnel station of the Hamburg subway - U2 in the district Niendorf . The station abbreviation of the operating company Hamburger Hochbahn is "SW". Around 3,800 people getting on and off use the stop every day (Mon – Fri, 2017).

history

In 1984 construction began to extend the new line from Hagenbeck's zoo to Niendorf Markt , which opened on June 1, 1985, further north of Niendorf. This last section of this route was actually supposed to be completed in 1987, but complaints from residents and problems with a high groundwater level made the work take four years longer.

On March 9, 1991, the underground line and with it the Schippelsweg stop was officially opened by the First Mayor Henning Voscherau and in the presence of Senators Wilhelm Rahlfs and Eugen Wagner .

investment

The underground station is, like almost the entire section from Niendorf Markt to Niendorf Nord , under Paul-Sorge-Straße. The main entrance, south of the junction with Schippelsweg, is at the southern end of the stop. This is also where the elevator to the platform for traffic in the city is located . For the opposite direction there is an elevator at the north end. Stairs lead from an intermediate level with ticket machines and passenger information to the two side platforms.

The station is kept in white. On the platform walls clad with metal panels, paintings depict scenes from northern Germany.

Like all subway stations in Niendorf, this one is also a “multi-purpose building”, ie also a bunker for up to 1142 people that can be sealed off with steel gates . In times of crisis, two underground trains can be parked here. To make it easier to get from one train to the other, there is a narrow base between the tracks that is slightly flatter than the side platforms.

The distance to the stop Joachim-Mähl-Straße is 825 meters, to Niendorf Nord 685 meters.

Connection

The Schippelsweg underground station is served every 10 minutes during the day, and every 5 minutes during rush hour.

In continuous night traffic on the nights from Friday to Saturday as well as before Sundays and public holidays, the station is operated every 20 minutes. There is no transition to other public transport.
