Elonkorjaajat

Elonkorjaajat is a Finnish artist group founded in 1971, made up of Swedish-speaking and Finnish-speaking artists. "Elonkorjaajat" (Finnish) or "Skördemannen" (Swedish) means "harvest workers" and thus refers to the political orientation of the group that u. a. was founded by Jan-Olof Mallander, Peter Widén, Carl-Erik Ström and Pekka Airaksinen in Helsinki.

The group was closely linked to Pop Art and quickly drew attention to itself throughout Finland through performance, concept and action art as well as exhibitions with large-scale installations. After a last joint exhibition in 1982, the group of artists experienced their revival in 2009 with a comprehensive joint exhibition by Carl Erik Ström and other members such as Pekka Airaksinen, Carolus Enckell, Antero Kare, Philip von Knorring , J.-O. Mallander, Ilkka Juhani Takalo-Eskola, Erik Uddström, Peter Widén and Stuart Wrede in the Elverket exhibition hall in Ekenäs in southern Finland. The exhibition also included a retrospective of the work of group member Olli Lyytikäinen, who died in 1987.
