Embossing
An embossing is understood to mean a relief that is located on a glass bottle, for example. Some bottles, preferably with drinks in the upper price segment, are provided with them in order to make them appear more valuable than simple bottles without embossing.
Often, labels should be placed on the bottles centered on these embossings. To do this, the bottles in the labeling machine must be aligned accordingly before the labeling process.
criticism
The increased spread of embossings on beer bottles is criticized primarily by smaller breweries , because higher costs are incurred for sorting out bottles from other manufacturers. In addition, such reusable individual bottles have a poorer ecological balance, since longer transport routes to the respective manufacturer arise and the number of cycles per bottle is significantly lower.
Other uses
Embossing is also used in the production of greeting or decorative cards, envelopes, letterheads and the like to give the product a higher quality, often exclusively designed appearance. The embossing is created either by mechanical deformation of the material ( embossing ) or by applying and melting a special embossing powder.
