The lakes from a different perspective

The Emerald Lakes (English for, Emerald Lakes', Māori Ngarotopoum namu ) are three small crater lakes on Mount Tongariro in the World Heritage of UNESCO belonging Tongariro -Nationalpark in the region Manawatu-Wanganui in New Zealand . The lakes south of the central crater owe their name to the bright emerald green color, which is created by minerals of volcanic origin leached from the subsoil. Therefore bathing in the lakes is not possible.

The tourist trail Tongariro Alpine Crossing passes the lakes.
