Emma is a television series in six episodes on the BBC from 1972. It is based on the novel of the same name by Jane Austen .

The true-to-original film adaptation sticks closely to the novel, especially when it comes to the wit and the esprit of the dialogues. The BBC adapted the novel again in 2009 as the mini-series Emma in four parts.
