The recommendations for pedestrian traffic systems ( EFA for short ) are a set of technical regulations that are valid in Germany and that are published by the Research Association for Roads and Transport . The current recommendations are from 2002.

They contain various characteristics of pedestrian traffic and planning principles. The EFA try to bring the demands of pedestrians to their freedom of movement in road traffic on an equal footing with other types of traffic. The focus is on a three-stage planning process in which the basic forms and requirements for pedestrian-relevant infrastructure facilities such as traffic lights or pedestrian crossings are defined. In addition, the EFA contain guidelines for the design, equipment and operation of pedestrian traffic.
