Empress of Uruguay

The Empress of Uruguay ( Engl. Empress of Uruguay ) is a 2007 Uruguay found Druse of Amethyst (interspersed with some crystal islands of calcite ) that the equivalent of 3.27 meters as the world's longest applies. It is open lengthways and weighs 2.5 tons. It has been valued at AU $ 250,000 , although it is not for sale.

The druse was found in a mine known for spectacular drusen and amethysts. In a complex process, it was dissected out of the surrounding basalt in three months. The top has been partitioned off to reveal the inside. The lid was cut further and the amethysts sold. The main part of the druse was deliberately left in its entirety in order to exhibit it. It is part of a traveling exhibition and has been exhibited at the American Museum of Natural History , among others .

In 2011 it was damaged while staying at the Crystal Caves Museum near Atherton , Queensland , when a tourist secretly broke out a piece the size of a tennis ball.
