Endō Shūsaku Bungakukan
The Endō Shūsaku Bungakukan ( Japanese 遠藤 周作文 学 館 , German "Endō Shūsaku Literature Museum ") was opened on May 13, 2000 in Nagasaki in Nagasaki Prefecture .
Overview
The museum collects materials by and about the writer Endō Shūsaku , whose work was shaped by the Catholic faith . The museum was originally opened in 2000 as the “Endō-Shūsaku-Literature Museum of the City of Sotome ” in the Nishisonogi district . With the incorporation of Sotome into the city of Nagasaki, it also took over the Museum of Literature.
The museum houses the reconstruction of Endo's study with Endo's writing desk, manuscripts, photographs, etc. In addition, the museum selects a focus topic for the exhibition every two years. There is also a library in the house and free space that is intended for mutual exchange. Here you can also pursue the game of Go , which Endo himself greatly appreciates .
The city of Sotome is known as the center of the so-called Kakure Kirishitan , hidden Christians. Endō's main work Schweigen ( 沈 黙 , Chimmoku ) from 1966 also plays here . In 1987 the city of Sotome had already erected a stone memorial for Chimmoku ( 沈 黙 の 碑 , Chimmoku no ishibumi ) with the inscription:
