English Longitudinal Study of Aging

The English Longitudinal Study of Aging (ELSA) is a multidisciplinary longitudinal study that collects data on the living conditions of the population aged 50 and over in England . In addition to personal surveys on various aspects of life, objective health measurements are also carried out.

The participants answer a CAPI survey every two years . The questionnaire includes questions about physical and mental health, health behavior, employment, pension and wealth. Every four years there is also an examination of medical personnel in order to collect objective health data. In the third survey wave, information was collected retrospectively about the entire lifespan of the respondents.

sample

The sample is drawn from the participants in the Health Survey for England (HSE). In waves 3, 4, 6, 7 and 9, there were refresher samples to maintain size and representativeness.
