Enhörningen ("the unicorn") is a Finnish-Swedish science fiction and fantasy magazine . It is the only Swedish magazine in Finland for this genre.

history

The first issue of the magazine appeared in 1987. In 1998, after an eight-year break - between 1990 and 1998 - there was a new start with the help of a grant from Svenska Kulturfonden . The magazine later received financial support from Föreningen Konstsamfundet and the Finnish Ministry of Education.

Content and format

Enhörningen focuses on short stories, articles, reviews and illustrations. The short stories are original Swedish stories, by Imperial Swedish or Finnish Swedish authors, or translations from English or Finnish. The magazine tried to publish Swedish translations of all the winners of the Atorox Prize - the annual Finnish Science Fiction and Fantasy Short Stories Prize . The magazine was practically a showcase for Swedish-language science fiction and fantasy literature in Finland. The last edition was published in 2007.

The format is A4 . In the 1980s and 1990s the number of pages was about 20; in the 21st century between 50 and 90 pages.

On the Internet

Enhörningen has had an online edition since 1998, Näthörningen ("das Netzhorn"), which functions as a supplement to the magazine. The online edition contains reviews, short stories and news and is the main source of news on Finnish science fiction and fantasy in Swedish.
