Enhanced Definition Television

The term Enhanced Definition Television, or EDTV for short, is used to advertise devices that can digitally process SDTV signals and / or process HDTV signals and display them in their lower resolution .

The first category includes PAL / SECAM televisions with 100 Hz technology , which try to eliminate line flickering with digital filters. Also PAL devices are also included.

In the second category are z. B. (W) VGA - and (less often) (W) SVGA - plasma or liquid crystal screens with 480 (like NTSC ) or 600 lines.
