Enok Poulsen

Enok Poulsen (born February 28, 1960 in Paamiut ) is a Greenlandic musician and painter .

Life

Enok Poulsen was born the middle of nine children. His father died at sea in 1967. He began an apprenticeship as a fisherman and was trained in Denmark from his youth with the plan never to return to Greenland. He got married in Denmark but separated after a few years and moved back to Paamiut after 13 years. He later worked as a cultural advisor before becoming a hall inspector. He later married his second wife Kirsten, with whom he has four daughters and a stepson.

In Denmark he started playing with the band Tørfisk . In 1987 he released his first album Unigit , which sold 9,000 copies in Greenland with a population of 53,000. To date he has released twelve albums with around ten songs each. He also works as a painter. In 2006 Enok Poulsen received the Greenland Culture Prize .
