Against the cooling morning
Against the Cooling Morning is a song composed in 1932 in the Soviet Union that gained great popularity and became one of the most famous melodies in the Soviet Union. Dmitri Shostakovich wrote the music in 1938 during the Great Terror shot dead Boris Kornilov the text.
Story of the song
The song comes from the 1932 film Der Gegenplan ( Russian Встречный ). In this propaganda film, Leningrad workers exceed the production tasks prescribed by the state with a counter-plan. The aim is to design and produce the first Soviet turbines for the construction of hydropower plants in advance of the GOELRO plan for the electrification of Russia.

When the film was shown in western countries, the song also gained popularity there. After the end of the Second World War , the song also became known in the GDR . It was interpreted by Ernst Busch , but also by numerous choirs.
In 2008, Armin Mueller-Stahl gave his film portrait of Shostakovich in reference to the song the title Dmitri Shostakovich - Towards the cool morning .
