Epogdoon

In music theory, Epogdoon is the ratio of 9 to 8, i.e. the whole tone interval in Pythagorean tuning . For example, the natural numbers 18 and 16 are related to this.

According to Plutarch, the Pythagoreans hated the number 17 because it separates the 16 from their Epogdoon. They also called 17 the “barrier”, especially because Osiris is said to have died on the 17th.
