Ergatomorphs

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Ergatomorphic describes a female ant that does not differ morphologically from workers. However, ergatomorphic females have more pronounced ovaries ( ovaries ) and a seminal sac ( receptaculum seminis ). Thus they can take on the role of the queen and are then referred to as ergatogynes . Ergatomorphic females do not exist in all ant species.
