Erowid
Erowid is a non-governmental organization founded in October 1995. The English-language website of Erowid is an online - database with information on psychoactive substances and related topics and has a daily average of about 41,000 visitors (June 2005). Erowid has been operated by the "Erowid Center", officially recognized as a non-profit organization , since January 1st, 2008 . The organization is based in the north of the US state California , the servers are in San Francisco . Erowid is financed exclusively through donations. There are no banners or other advertising on the website.
Neutrality is an important part of Erowid. There has been criticism that the website promotes drug use. Erowid rejects this criticism and states that it will publish everything that meets the qualitative standards, regardless of whether it is positive, neutral or negative about a drug. However, this would be seen as promoting drug use by prohibitionist opinion leaders who only accept negative opinions about drugs.
The database contains over 50,000 documents and is over 37 gigabytes in size (April 2009). The documents contain, among other things, research reports, pictures and testimonials and provide information on chemistry, dosage, effects, laws, health, drug tests and the traditional and spiritual use of a psychoactive substance.
