Erranter (wandering) Arizona bark scorpion (pregnant female)

errant (lat. errare (to err)) is an ecology term and describes an organism that is actively or passively free to move in a medium . The term is also used to refer to roaming animals such as the Arizona bark scorpion Centruroides vittatus . While errant animals wander around in a limited geographical area, the term migration in ecology describes the targeted, seasonal and reproductive-related wandering over longer distances.

Errant can also be translated as lost in a wider context . Animals and plants that are seen outside of their specific area of distribution are called errant .
