First cabinet of the Gironde
The Gironde's first cabinet was the first-time appointment of politicians by Louis XVI. the political direction of the Girondins on March 24, 1792.
Since Necker's dismissal on September 4, 1790, the king had tried to consolidate his power with politicians from the more conservative half of the National Assembly , monarchists and feuillants . After a turbulent year and a half, with constantly changing personalities at the top of the six ministries, an attempt was now made to set an example against the more revolutionary groups of the Mountain Party ( Jacobins and Cordeliers ), calling on the Girondists, who were to be assessed as "moderate" .
On March 24, 1792, Étienne Clavière took over the Ministry of Finance and Jean-Marie Roland de La Platière took over the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of the Interior. On April 14th, Antoine Duranthon took over the judiciary and on May 9th, Joseph Marie Servan de Gerbey took over the Ministry of War. Without being able to be specifically assigned to the Gironde, Charles-François Dumouriez held the Foreign Ministry and Jean de Lacoste the Ministry of the Navy and the Colonies.
On June 23, 1792 there was a conservative reaction from the king and Claviere, Roland, Servan and Dumouriez were released again.
