Ertuğrul Gazi Mosque

The Ertuğrul Gazi Mosque , also known as the Asadi Mosque ( Turkmen Ärtogrul Gazy metjidi ; Russian Мечеть Эртугрул Гази Mechet Ertugrul Gasi ), is a mosque in the center of the Turkmen capital Ashgabat .

It is the largest mosque in the city and is named after the leader of the Seljuk Empire, Ertuğrul Gazi , the father of Osman I , who founded the Ottoman Empire . Construction of the Ertuğrul Gazi Mosque began in the 1990s when Turkmenistan gained independence from the Soviet Union . In 1998 the work was completed.

The mosque has four minarets and is stylistically based on the Blue Mosque in Istanbul . It offers space for 5,000 people.
