Disability insurance

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The disability insurance is insurance against loss of income. This insurance intervenes if the insured person is no longer able to work in the general labor market, for example due to a physical or mental illness or an accident. These are all professions that are not suitable for handicapped people or that are quiet or niche jobs.

As a rule, the insured person must prove that he can no longer work 3 hours a day. In some tariffs it can be 2 hours a day or 7 hours a week.

In Switzerland, a monthly pension can either be drawn as a lump sum or taking into account the pensions that are paid by the disability insurance and the pension fund and are therefore deducted - depending on the IV pension and pension fund benefits, this can in the best case make up to 30 or 40 percent of previous income. In some cases, an additional capital payment can also be agreed. Such insurance can be taken out as part of pillar 3a or 3b . In addition, banks sometimes offer this insurance for a mortgage, so the mortgagee should be able to continue to finance the lent property in the event of an accident or illness.

In contrast to this, the occupational disability insurance pays the agreed monthly pension if the insured person is no longer able to work in their last job, as it was designed without any health impairment, due to illness, physical injury or more than age-related loss of strength.

The difference between the performance of the occupational disability insurance and the disability insurance is greater in the case of physical limitations than in the case of mental illness. Because with mental illnesses such as B. Depression one is usually no longer able to work
