August-Wilhelm Trabandt
August-Wilhelm Trabandt (born July 21, 1891 in Berlin ; † May 19, 1968 in Ahrensburg ) was a German officer , most recently an SS brigade leader and major general of the Waffen SS .
Life
In 1913, after graduating from high school, Trabandt joined the Lauenburg Jäger Battalion No. 9 as a flag boy . He served in World War I and after the war he fought in a free corps in the Baltic States and was also actively involved in the Kapp Putsch . Because of his involvement, he was charged with high treason before the Imperial Court , convicted and then given amnesty. Trabandt was accepted into the Reichswehr and retired from active service as a captain in 1933 . He became a member of the NSDAP ( membership number 7,035,171) and joined the SS (membership number 218,852).
During the Second World War , Trabandt led, among other things, as commander from January 25, 1944 to January 3, 1945 the 18th SS Volunteer Panzer Grenadier Division "Horst Wessel" .
