The Erzcister (Italian ceterone , French archicistre , English bass cittern ), also Theorbenzister called, is a historical plucked instrument . It belongs to the cistern instrument group and has free-swinging drone strings in addition to fingerboard strings . The number of strings and the choirs vary at the Erzcister. The archcister of Johann Gottfried Klemm (jun.), Radeberg 1755, for example, has 16 strings and has 12 courses. The length of the Erzcister measures 97–117 cm.
