Archduke Wilhelm convalescence march

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Archduke Wilhelm convalescence march is a march by Johann Strauss Sohn (op. 149). The work was first performed on May 28, 1854 in Ungers Casino in Hernals (Vienna).

Remarks

The march was on the occasion of the convalescence of Archduke Wilhelm of Austria (1827-1894), who in the spring of 1854 was affected by the then immediate cholera disease. This explains the title name. For Johann Strauss it was another opportunity to prove his loyalty to the imperial family.

The playing time on the CD listed under individual records is 3 minutes and 27 seconds. This time can vary somewhat depending on the conductor's musical conception.
