Esprit (magazine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

In the Esprit magazine, founded by Emmanuel Mounier in 1932, the thinking of personalism unfolds as it gradually encompasses all areas of intellectual, social, economic and political life. This is where the engagement and discussion with other currents of the present, especially with communism and capitalism , is conducted.

The magazine makes an important contribution to the self-clarification of the philosophy of personalism by dealing with current problems of human coexistence, such as the relationship between economy and ethics, sociality and religiosity, communism and Christianity.

From 1941 to 1944 the magazine was banned by the Vichy regime . After the end of the Second World War , Esprit continued work under the direction of Mounier and thus developed a program for the “Personalist Revolution”.

The magazine also currently exists and is to be seen as a counterpart to the Marxism of the French New Left .
