Estompe

Estompe ( Fr . : paper wiper ), colloquially also called Schummelnudel , is a pen-like drawing device made of rolled up leather or blotting paper, sharpened at the bottom , which is used in charcoal, pencil , chalk and pastel drawings to create shadows and transitions and to rub the Tones is used.

Another variant of the estompe is the tortillon . This is not quite as tightly wound, shorter and hollow on the inside.
