The euro sculpture is a work of art executed in two copies by Ottmar Hörl . The 14-meter-high and 50-tonne neon sign shows a monumental blue Euro symbol surrounded by twelve yellow stars, the colors of the European Union . The euro sculpture is an often photographed object in downtown Frankfurt and can also be found as an illustration in reports on the euro.

history

Ottmar Hörl designed the euro sculpture in the late 1990s and created two copies; one was set up at Frankfurt Airport , the other he gave to the Frankfurter Kultur Komitee , which they had set up on the urban Willy-Brandt-Platz next to the Eurotower , where the European Central Bank (ECB) was based. Since the turn of the year 2001/2002 the sculpture has replaced a euro clock at the same location.

After the ECB had moved to its new location in Frankfurt's Ostend, various parties called for the object in the city center to be removed from the square and either moved to the Ostend or taken to a museum. The Frankfurter Kultur Komitee association then received requests to exhibit it at a prominent location in Paris, among other places.

In July 2015 the sculpture was refurbished and the lighting was switched to LED .
