European Volunteer Corps for Humanitarian Aid

The European Volunteer Corps for Humanitarian Aid (EVHAC) is a voluntary service for young development workers that the EU Commission set up. The basis was the changes in Art. 214 of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union .

In public consultations, the EU Commission received contributions from over a hundred actors and groups active in the field of humanitarian aid. The pilot phase for the volunteer corps began in Budapest in June 2011. 100 interested parties go through a training phase that prepares them for deployment in crisis regions and for working with local aid organizations. The organizations participating in the project include the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement , the Order of St. John and Caritas International .
