The European Defense Fund (EVF) ( English European Defense Industrial Development Program , abbreviation: EDIDP ) was in 2017 to finance the EU -Verteidigungsunion created. Initially, 5.5 billion euros per year were planned. In March 2019, financing of around EUR 500 million was decided for the financial years 2019/20, with which the 34 joint projects so far are to be co-financed. The European Defense Fund will coordinate, complement and strengthen national defense investments. 20% of the financing comes from the Defense Fund , the national budgets of the participating EU member states finance 80% of the projects.
