European Personnel Selection Office

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Personnel Selection Office ( EAP ; English European Personnel Selection Office , EPSO) is an institution of the European Union with the task of the pre-selection of employees of the institutions to unify the European Union. The Office was established on July 26, 2002.

Depending on the needs of the institutions, EPSO organizes competitions with the aim of drawing up reserve lists of applicants for certain professional fields. Only from these reserve lists can the institutions later select staff for permanent recruitment.

Usually the number of applicants far exceeds the number of advertised places; a ratio of 100: 1 is not uncommon. In 2017, 23,716 applicants were admitted to the multi-stage test procedure for the 124 places advertised at the time. Of these, 2,218 made it to the next and 251 to the final round, in which the winners of the competition, which lasted over a year, were finally selected using an assessment center, oral presentation, competence-based discussion and group exercise. Regardless of the effort involved in the testing process, it is then necessary to wait and see - a place on the reserve list does not mean a job guarantee with the EU.

In order to cope with the rush, the procedure is highly standardized. Registration usually takes place over the Internet. In the meantime, EPSO has also started to run selection tests online in test centers. Otherwise, the selection tests are not infrequently conducted in all official languages of the European Union at the same time.

The EU selection process has been extensively modified since March 2010.
