The European Paralympic Committee , (English: European Paralympic Committee - EPC), is a not-for-profit organization under Austrian law based on the registration in Vienna and is supported by the European Union and the Austrian government. The EPC was founded in 1991 as the IPC European Committee and was given its current name in 1999. In 2008 the head office was established in Vienna.

Former President John Petersson in October 2015

The biennial general assembly to which all members are entitled to send delegates is the highest decision-making body. The Executive Committee (formerly the Executive Committee) is elected every four years by the General Assembly. The committee consists of the president, treasurer, technical officer, athlete representative and four associate members. In addition to the executive committee, the day-to-day business is handled by an office manager in Vienna.

The EPC has 54 members (49 National Paralympic Committees, eight European branches of international disabled sports associations and one independent Paralympic sports association).

aims

The aim of the association is to promote sports for people with disabilities all over the world, with Europe playing a pioneering role in developing and promoting the Paralympic sector. The EPC sees the main tasks of promoting young talent and working with various political and sport-political organizations. The EPC aims to provide sports programs and initiatives such as hosting the biennial European Paralympic Youth Games (EPYG), increasing the number of participants in sport in poor European regions and increasing the proportion of women in sport in Europe. Responsibility for continental championships had been handed over to the International Paralympic Committee (IPC) a few years ago , but the President of the EPC, John Petersson, was still able to present the European Games in 2013 .
