European Center for Environment and Health

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The European Center for Environment and Health (also known as ECEH = European Center for Environment and Health) is the scientific competence center of the WHO (“WHO Regional Office for Europe”). It provides the member states with information on the type and extent of existing as well as newly emerging or identified environmental health risks and helps them to develop action plans to deal with these risks. The organization based in Bonn was set up in 1991.

Since January 1, 2012, this has been completely located at the UN site in Bonn . The part that was previously in Rome was closed and its tasks relocated to Bonn. The Federal Government has agreed to increase the German funding share from EUR 1.023 million a year to date to around EUR 3.4 million a year from 2012.

The purpose is to provide conceptual advice and develop international guidelines in areas such as air quality and noise pollution, which should be incorporated into the decision-making processes of governments, health professionals, citizens and other stakeholders.

The ECEH supports the 'Environment and Health Process in Europe' initiated by the Regional Office in 1989. At present it is mainly concerned with following up the results of the Fifth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Health, which took place in Parma (Italy) in 2010.

The main building is the skyscraper known as Langer Eugen , which housed the offices of the members of the Bundestag until the Bundestag moved to Berlin.
