Eutinian Circle

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Eutin Circle was a group of eminent intellectuals and artists who met in Eutin when it flourished between 1776 and 1829.

The Eutiner circle included the Sturm und Drang lyricist Friedrich Leopold Graf zu Stolberg , the poet and literary translator Johann Heinrich Voss , the playwright Heinrich Wilhelm von Gerstenberg , the philosopher Friedrich Heinrich Jacobi , the lawyer and writer Johann Georg Schlosser and the Prussian Ministerial official for church and school affairs Georg Heinrich Ludwig Nicolovius (1767–1839, from 1813 honorary member of the Prussian Academy of the Arts). Eutin has since been referred to as the Weimar of the North . The circle finally broke up over differences between Voss and Stolberg on the assessment of the French Revolution.

The Eutin Circle must not be confused with the Eutin Poets' Circle founded in 1936, which was founded in 1936 and called itself the Eutin Circle .
