Gospels of Echternach

Echternach Gospels is a common name for various book illumination works that were created or stored in the scriptorium of the Echternach monastery :

  • the Echternach Gospels , a work of insular book illumination that was created around 690 and is today under the signature Paris, Bibliothèque Nationale, Lat. 9389 is kept
  • a gospel book of insular illumination, which was created in the first half of the 8th century in Echternach or Trier and is now kept in the Trier cathedral treasury, see Echternach gospel book in the Trier cathedral treasury
  • the Codex aureus Epternacensis , a work of Ottonian book illumination , which was created around 1030-1050 and is now kept under the signature Nuremberg, Germanisches Nationalmuseum, Hs. 156 142
  • a work of Ottonian book illumination, also known as the Speyer Gospels , which was created around 1043–1046 and is today under the signature Madrid, Escorial, Cod. Vitr. 17 is kept
