The Protestant Church

Building plots were bought in 1901 and 1905. The foundation stone for the church was laid on March 25, 1913. The construction work was the responsibility of master builder Roithner. Woodcarver Alois Feichtinger from Bad Aussee was entrusted with the execution of the altar group, which depicts a worker and a farmer under the cross. The interior of the church is simple and corresponds to the Protestant view that the sermon should be the focus. The church was consecrated on September 8, 1913.

A wooden ceiling, a pulpit, a gallery and an organ from 1957 complete the interior of the church. The bell tower was built in 1983 and 1984. One bell was already there, and the women's group donated two more. The bells are named "Faith", "Love" and "Hope".

History of the Protestant Congregation

When Emperor Maximilian II assumed his reign in 1564, around 90% of the population were Protestant. In the course of the Counter Reformation and especially after the Upper Austrian Peasants' War of 1628, the belief was no longer practiced in public. The tolerance patent of 1781 issued by Emperor Joseph II allowed the reestablishment of Protestant parishes in the Habsburg lands. In today's Austria a total of 48 tolerance communities were created by 1795. Thenning was the closest tolerance community for the area around Traun. From 1846 onwards, the number of evangelicals increased with the influx of Swiss workers. In 1852 a Protestant school was built. The opening of the Kremstalbahn in 1880 made it easier for neighboring pastors to arrive and hold regular services in Traun.

The church was consecrated in 1913. In 1921 it was detached from the district of Thenning and the parish was elevated to the status of an independent parish of Traun. During the Second World War, many refugees from Transylvania came to the community, which grew to over 4500 members. In 1985, a priest was installed for the first time in the Haid subsidiary, which belongs to Traun.
