Extranet

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The extranet according to ISO / IEC 2382 is an extension of the intranet with a component that can only be used by a defined group of external users. Extranets are used to provide information that is made available to companies, customers or partners, for example, but not to the public.

Extranets enable the efficient exchange of confidential data across company boundaries and are well suited to accelerate communication along the value chain.

Intranet extranet

technology

The extranet uses the same technologies as the Internet (including TCP / IP , UDP ).

The extranet can be connected to the Internet via protective mechanisms or it can be a completely separate private network that can only be reached via a separate dedicated line or dial-in. Virtual Private Networks (VPN), which tunnel the private connection over a public network , are often found .

Various encryption methods can also be used to secure the connection.
