In the case of rail transport systems, fan tracks or beam tracks are an arrangement of several track ends in such a way that they run towards a common central circle center . This arrangement resembles the geometric shape of a fan . This radial track arrangement can often be found on the turntables of roundhouse sheds , which are located at the intersection of the tracks.

Fan-shaped tracks differ from track harps in that they end bluntly, while track harps are "single tracks that are arranged in parallel and come together again to form a track".
