Porta ferry

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Porta ferry was a ferry that crossed the Weser in the area of Porta Westfalica in East Westphalia between Barkhausen or Aulhausen on one side and the Hausberger Ufer on the other. A ferry station was established here in the 17th century.

history

After the ferry initially shuttled between the forester's house at Gut Wedigenstein and the Fähranger on the Hausberger side, it was moved closer to the village of Barkhausen due to the risk of flooding. From 1711 Johann Jobst Arming had the temporary lease , who ran it until July 15, 1789 in his family property. Then it was bought by the local mill leaseholder Gößling , now as a long lease . According to the contract, the ferry leaseholder was entitled to compensation if there was another ferry or bridge. This also applied to the company ferry traffic with a second ferry in the time of Porta Westfalica AG, a hut on the left bank of the Weser, where building materials and minerals were extracted. When the bridge was built in 1954, compensation of 15,000 DM was paid to the last tenant of the ferry justice to compensate him.

The ferry operated until the Weser Bridge was built in 1865. During World War II, when the bridge was blown up, it was reactivated until the bridge was renewed in 1954 and the ferry was finally stopped.

There is an inn at the old ferry on Fährstrasse .
