Fédération Internationale Féline

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Fédération Internationale Féline (FIFe) is an international umbrella organization of cat breeding associations. One of the tasks of the FIFe is to define uniform standards for cat breeding and rules for cat shows.

history

The organization was founded by the French Marguerite Ravel . Ravel has been campaigning for the establishment of a European umbrella organization since the early 1930s. In 1949, the Royal Cat Society of Flanders , the Fédération Féline Française and the Federazione Felina Italiana met in Paris and unofficially merged to form the Fédération Internationale Féline d'Europe (FIFE). The organization was officially founded on December 10, 1950 at the general assembly in Ghent .

The number of members grew rapidly. For example, the Fédération Féline Helvétique became a member as early as 1949, the Austrian Cat Friends Club followed in 1950 and the 1st German Association of Noble Cat Breeders has also been a member since 1951 . In 1972 the first non-European member (the Brazilian Clube Brasileiro do Gato ) was accepted, which is why the addition d'Europe was deleted and the abbreviation changed to FIFe .

42 national associations from 40 European, Asian and South American countries are currently affiliated to the FIFe (as of December 2017).
