The Fédération Internationale des Véhicules Anciens (FIVA), the World Association of vintage cars - clubs . Founded in 1966, FIVA today has over 75 member organizations in over 60 countries. It represents over 1.5 million classic car enthusiasts worldwide.

In Germany, in addition to the ADAC Oldtimer Section, the Allgemeine Schnauferl Club (ASC) and the Deutsche Automobil-Veteranen-Club e. V. (DAVC) member of FIVA. More than 125,000 classic car drivers from Germany are represented at FIVA.

The FIVA Presidium always assigns the so-called ANF status (Autorité Nationale de la FIVA) to a member association in the respective countries. With the decision of the FIVA Presidium on April 12, 2008, the ADAC Oldtimer Section in Germany has this ANF status. DEUVET previously held this status.

The Austrian Motor Veterans Association (ÖMVV) represents Austria and the Federation Suisse des Vehicules Anciens (FSVA) for Switzerland . In Liechtenstein the Motor-Veteranen-Club-Liechtenstein is registered as ANF. A complete overview of the respective ANFs can be found on the FIVA website.

A FIVA agency, the CVUC Classic Vehicle Union of China, was recently also won in China, the world's most important automobile market.

aims

FIVA's goals include:

  • The promotion of global friendship and mutual understanding through support and assistance in events for historic vehicles.
  • Association of as many enthusiasts as possible worldwide. There are currently over one and a half million members from sixty-four countries.
  • Preserving an important part of our industrial history by defending the right to drive historic vehicles on public roads around the world.

Commissions

Within the Oldtimer World Association there are various commissions and working groups that deal with specific tasks and topics in the field of historic vehicles in line with the objectives of FIVA.

Vintage study

In 2005 and 2006 FIVA carried out a study on the subject of vintage cars. The result of the study shows that the topic of historical vehicles is also a major economic factor worldwide. In this area billions in sales are made and many thousands of jobs are dependent on this branch of the economy. The key figures from the study, which was published in late 2006:

  1. Economic factor
    • In the area of ​​historic vehicles, 16 billion euros are sold annually in Europe.
    • The export trade is worth over 3 billion euros.
    • The members of the various clubs spent over 4.9 billion euros on insurance, the purchase of historic vehicles, fuel, maintenance and classic car-related products and services (magazines, books, clothing, etc.).
    • Historic vehicle clubs spent 12.4 million euros on the printing and distribution of their club publications.
    • Overall, the club's expenses amounted to around 39 million euros.
  2. Employment and stability
    • The classic car movement secures over 55,000 people in the EU fully or partially their livelihood.
    • 67% of the services for the classic car movement are provided by companies that have existed for more than 10 years.
    • 43% of the 9,000 businesses and businesses in the classic car industry are planning new hires in the next three years.
    • The share of training companies is 22%.
  3. Number and use of vehicles
    • The historical vehicle population across the EU is 1.95 million vehicles.
    • Around 1.5 million of these historic vehicles are roadworthy and registered.
    • 83% of all historic vehicles are used less than three times a week.
    • 71% of all historic vehicles have a mileage of less than 1,500 km in the year of the survey.
    • Historical vehicles have covered a total of 1.4 billion km. That is only 0.7% of the mileage of modern vehicles (2.2 trillion km).
  4. Cultural and social engagement
    • 29% of vehicle owners have an income of less than 30,000 euros per year.
    • 49% of owners of historic vehicles are between 41 and 60 years old.
    • 78% of the historic vehicles have a value of less than 15,000 euros
    • FIVA has a total of 765,000 members who are organized in the European clubs.
    • Every year over 75 million people visit the 700 transport museums in the EU.

Classic car definition

At its general assembly on October 25, 2008, FIVA approved the new definition for historic vehicles.

English original text:

A historic vehicle is a mechanically propelled road vehicle

  • which is at least 30 years old,
  • which is preserved and maintained in a historically correct condition,
  • which is not used as a means of daily transport and
  • and which is therefore a part of our technical and cultural heritage.

The ADAC Oldtimer section has translated this definition as follows:

A historic vehicle is a mechanically powered vehicle

  • who is at least 30 years old,
  • that is preserved and maintained in a historically correct condition,
  • whose use is not geared towards daily transport and
  • is preserved for its technical and historical value.

Membership development

FIVA is becoming more and more important in the classic car scene worldwide. Many clubs and associations support FIVA's goals and have increasingly joined the World Classic Car Association in recent years.
