The Fölsch Block on Hamburg's Rathausmarkt

The Fölsch Block is a commercial building on Hamburg's Rathausmarkt , which Hermann CJ Fölsch's heirs had built from 1949 to 1951.

As a young man, HCJ Fölsch went to the Atacama Desert on the border between Peru and Chile. There he discovered saltpeter deposits, a sought-after raw material at the time, which he imported to Hamburg. Around 1900 he bought several pieces of land at the Hamburg City Hall, the buildings of which were destroyed in the Second World War and then combined into one building. The Fölsch block has a classic sandstone facade and a copper roof typical of Hamburg. Office and retail space is rented on its 11,000 square meters. It is still fully family-owned today.

The Fölsch Block is located between the Europa-Passage Hamburg and the town hall.
