Head

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The delivery head  H of a liquid pump is understood as the useful work that is transferred from the pump to the delivery medium , based on the weight of the medium; it is therefore a specific quantity :

The following equation is identical to the equation for the pipe characteristic:

With

Delivery head in m
pressure vessel
Suction container
Pressure in  Pa  (= N / m²)
Speed in m / s
Density of the pumped liquid in kg / m³
Gravitational acceleration  = 9.81 m / s²
Inflow height of the liquid level in m
Pressure loss height in the pressure and suction line in m.

The difference between the inlet heights is called the geodetic suction height .

In the case of water, the rule of thumb is that one bar of pressure corresponds to a maximum delivery head of approx. 10 m.
