Fo

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

(read: eff-ö) is an abbreviation for Føroyar , the country name of the Faroe Islands . From 1958 to 1976 it was the standard license plate of the Faroe Islands (white on a black background).

As a colloquial abbreviation (only in written language), Fø has stepped back from the much more common FO , which has also been the nationality of the Faroe Islands since 1996:

Eg fari til Fø - lies: Eg fari til Føroyar - "I'm going to the Faroe Islands"
