history
FC Monthey was founded in 1910 by twelve teenagers. After a few years, Monthey joined the Vaudois Football Association and won the Vaudois Série B in 1918, 1919 and 1921. In 1919, FC Monthey was one of the initiators of the Valais Football Association, but remained a member of the Vaudois Football Association for some time.
In 1930, FC Monthey reached the top division, the National Serie A , but was relegated back to the National Serie B a year later.
Among the most famous footballers from Monthey were the 20-time Swiss national player Jean Tamini in the 1940s and the 16-time international Philippe Pottier in the 1950s and 1960s .
In the 2010/11 season, after a long period of upheaval, the first team of FC Monthey managed to return to the first division , the third highest Swiss division. After the league reform and a further relegation, Monthey has been playing fifth class in the second interregional league since the 2015/16 season .
