FFV type 42

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The FFV Type 42 is a Swedish light torpedo .

The Type 422 is the origin of a whole series of light torpedoes that FFV developed for the domestic market and for export. They were primarily designed for anti-submarine missions by helicopters. It was the first western torpedo that could be guided in the air after being released. He used a silver-zinc battery as a power supply. The warhead has a proximity and contact fuse. The speed in the water can be controlled either by the guide wire or the viewfinder unit. Newer versions are optimized with digital microprocessor control units for the fight against modern, very quiet conventional submarines that operate in shallow waters.
