FF Mister K , published by FontShop International in December 2008, belongs to the font classification DIN 16518 to the group of script fonts . The font was designed by the Finnish type designer and philologist Julia Sysmäläinen , inspired by manuscripts by the writer Franz Kafka (1883–1924). Kafka's handwriting is characterized by a very independent and diverse, but at the same time easily legible formal language. The name Mister K is borrowed from the main characters ( Josef K. and K. ) of the novels The Trial and The Castle .

Visual characteristics

FF Mister K consists of three sections Regular , Onstage and Crossout . While the Regular digitally simulates the flow of a largely connected handwriting (Fig. 1), the Onstage has more calligraphic features with predominantly single characters (Fig. 2). The Crossout finally includes the entire character set in Kafka after shearing manner meticulously crossed shape (Fig. 3). These font styles are supplemented by K Pictos , a set of 250 pictograms that have been adapted to the Regular in form and style (Fig. 4).

technical features

FF Mister K is available in OpenType format with an extensive OpenType feature code . This enables a variety of context-related substitutions and thus leads to a rich variety of characters in the word and sentence image while reducing the number of repetitions of forms.
