FX teleport

FX Teleport is a commercial software tool that enables the distributed use of VST components for electronic music generation on a PC basis in the LAN . In this way, idle computer resources in the network are to be tapped and used jointly for music production.

In electronic music production, a sequencer software is often executed on a personal computer , which can record and control computer-internal and external hardware and software sound components. The VST interface offers a cross-manufacturer standardized interface and thus enables other manufacturers to integrate their own components for sound generation and processing.

But if all VST components are run together with the sequencer on a single PC, the very computationally intensive and, above all, time-critical processing of the music data quickly reaches the limits of the main processor performance. So you can only work with a limited number of VST components, depending on the available computing power.

With FX Teleport , based on VST technology, the division into a host PC with the sequencer software and several VST computers with the individual components distributed in the LAN was introduced. A VST library on the host ensures that the control signals of the sequencer software reach the other computers via the network and that their outputs are in turn fed back to the host. Runtime effects of the data to be transported back and forth, so-called latencies , must be taken into account. In the ideal case, the overall system behaves as if all software components were running on a single PC. As a result, the CPU load on the host PC remains comparatively low, although the computer uses a significantly higher number of VST components.
