Fabrosauridae

The division of living beings into systematics is a continuous subject of research. Different systematic classifications exist side by side and one after the other. The taxon treated here has become obsolete due to new research or is not part of the group systematics presented in the German-language Wikipedia.

As Fabrosauridae a family of the Ornithopoda was designated, in which mainly Fabrosaurus and Lesothosaurus were placed. The taxon was established in 1964 by Leonard Ginsburg .

The Fabrosauridae were considered the earliest representatives of the Ornithopoda. All other forms should have developed from them. Already in the 1980s it was recognized by cladistic analyzes by the paleontologists Jacques Gauthier and Paul Sereno that the Fabrosaurids are not a monophyletic taxon, and that the Lesothosaurus was not an ornithopod, but is to be regarded as the most original bird basin dinosaur (Ornithischia). Other taxa belonging to the family have been placed in various higher ornithischiataxa. Fabrosaurus is considered to be the noun dubium .
