Specialized application is a term used in information technology that describes application software made for a customer or industry . A specialist application is characterized by the fact that it is custom-made as individual software according to the requirements of an individual customer , or as standard software that is developed for a large number of (potential) customers.

Typical specialist applications for standard software are generally applicable calculation programs for wages and salaries as well as programs for determining income tax in a tax office or CAD systems.
