history

On December 1, 1911, Ernst Arnold laid the cornerstone of the company with the establishment of a printing company and the associated book and stationery store. With the support of his wife Hedwig Arnold, the family company began its economic rise in 1913. The path to becoming a specialist publisher began with the production of family prints and similar commercial jobs for local clients.

After the First World War , Ernst Arnold brought the "Mengeder Zeitung" into being, which was later renamed the "Dortmunder Nord-West-Zeitung". Due to the positive order situation, the company moved into the new building on Mengeder Markt in 1925, which is still the headquarters of the specialist publisher today. Although considerable parts of the company were destroyed during the Second World War , operations were resumed.

Helmut Arnold, a trained typesetter and former editor at “Handelsblatt”, joined the company in 1945, took over management in 1950 and led the company to success.

In 1948 the publisher's first trade journal, "ElektroWirtschaft", was published as the "Sole organ of the Federal Association of Electrical Wholesalers (VEG)". The establishment as a specialist publisher was deepened with the purchase of the magazine "Nahverkehrs-praxis" and a new branch was added.

In 1990 Gudrun Arnold-Schoenen inherited from her father and became the publisher and editor-in-chief of the trade journals. She restructured the publishing house and outsourced the printing business and newspaper publishing in order to subsequently establish the trade magazines as the main media and core competencies of the company. The classic print area was supplemented by multimedia offers.
